Ryan Fox takes fourth in Ireland and secures Open spot

Ryan Fox finished in a share of fourth place at the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open Hosted by the Rory Foundation to secure his place at The Open Championship at Royal Birkdale.

The New Zealander, who finished sixth at last week’s HNA Open de France to miss out on a place at The Open by one shot, carded a final round of 68 at Portstewart.

Scott Jamieson, Peter Uihlein and Gavin Moynihan – who shot a final round of 68- shared 14th place, with Gregory Bourdy 30th and David Horsey 48th.

Garrick Porteous picked up his first professional win with a victory at the Prague Challenge. Leading by four shots going into the final round in the Czech Republic, Garrick shot 67 to win by five shots. He moves up to 16th place in the Road to Oman rankings.

England beat South Africa by 211 runs in the first Test at Lord’s. Joe Root scored 190, Ben Stokes made 56 and Stuart Broad scored 57 as England were 458 all out in their first innings, with Stuart 2-62 and Ben 0-53 with the ball as the visitors replied with 361.

The home side made 233 in their second innings and bowled South Africa out for 119. The second of four Tests starts at Trent Bridge on Thursday.

Paul Collingwood made 38 in Durham’s NatWest T20 Blast win over Northamptonshire and Scott Borthwick’s Surrey beat Jim Allenby and Lewis Gregory’s Somerset.
