Gavin Moynihan and Paul Dunne secured an impressive win for Ireland at the Golf Sixes at Centurion Club.

They started the group phase with a comprehensive 3-0 win over Scotland and, after they were beaten 2-1 by France, birdies on the third and fourth gave them a 2-0 lead against Italy that they held until the end.

In Sunday's knock-out phase, birdies on the fourth and fifth holes got them an unassailable lead over England women in the quarter-finals.

In the last four they faced South Korea and were tied 1-1 after six holes, only for Gavin to produce a memorable chip in from off the green to get the win.

In the final they birdied the first two holes and eagled the third and a birdie on the fifth was enough for the win.

Gavin said: "We know each other's games so well and we're comfortable with each other. so, coming in, we had kind of had a game plan coming in and the course set up well for us, I think.

"We had fun.  Honestly it was the best fun I've had on the golf course since I've turned pro. It was a great few days."

Matt Wallace's England reached the quarter-finals, having knocked out George Coetzee's South Africa in the group phase.

Peter Uihlein shot 62 on Saturday on the way to sharing fifth place at the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow.
