Clement Sordet wins Viking Challenge

Clement Sordet won his third professional title, securing victory at the Viking Challenge, reduced to 54 holes due to bad weather, by five shots and the Frenchman moves up to 14th in the Road to Oman rankings.

Now 315 in the Official World Golf Rankings and feels he is finding form at just the right time.

“It feels amazing and I played unbelievably all week. I putted so well and I made pretty much everything today, and I shot a very good five under," Clement said. 

“I made a very slow start to the season so to get a win is very important. It is a long season though and after this week anything can happen.”

Matthias Schwab was tied for eighth place and has four top-11 finishes in his last five tournaments, while Ben Eccles was 15th in Norway.

At the Wyndham Championship on the PGA Tour Anirban Lahiri was 28th, while Ryan Fox was 24th and Dimitrios Papadatos and Todd Sinnott shared 30th at the Fiji International.

Anirban and Louis Oosthuizen are in the field at The Northern Trust for the start of the FedEx Cup play-offs.

David Horsey, the 2015 champion, Matt Wallace, Nino Bertasio, Scott Jamieson, Matt Nixon, Simon Dyson and Ben Eccles play at Made in Denmark at Himmerland Golf and Spa Resort.

Garrick Porteous, Gavin Moynihan, Clement Sordet and Dominic Foos feature at the Rolex Trophy on the Challenge Tour.

In cricket, Stuart Broad moved up to second in the list of England’s all-time Test wicket-takers when he took a 384th career wicket in the first Test victory against West Indies.

Joe Root scored a 13th Test century with 136 and Stuart had figures of 2-47 and 3-34, with Ben Stokes 0-40 and 1-9 as England won by an innings and 209 runs at Edgbaston. The second Test starts at Headingley on Friday.

In snooker, Shaun Murphy fought back from 4-1 down to beat Ali Carter 6-4 in the semi-finals of the China Championship and will face Luca Brecel or Li Hang in tomorrow’s final in Guangzhou.
