WGC - Accenture Match Play Championship

Jeev Milkha SinghISM had eight players in the WGC - Accenture World Match Play Championship at the Ritz-Carlton Club at Dove Mountain, Arizona, where only two of our stable progressed to the third round. India's Jeev Milkha Singh took the scalp of Padraig Harrington 3 and 1 in the first round and beat Jim Furyk 1 up in the second round. Singh came up against Ian Poulter in round three and the in-form Englishman won 5 and 4.

 

South Africa's Charl Schwartzel, winner of two tournaments already this year, continued his good form by beating Hunter Mahan in round one by 2 and 1 and followed that up with a 3 and 2 win against Matt Kuchar. In the third round he was all square with Open Champion Stewart Cink but Charl lost at the 19th courtesy of a birdie three from Cink at the first extra hole.

 

The major upset of the week was down to Ross McGowan who put out world number two, Steve Stricker at the 19th on day one but Ross came up against Ryo Ishikawa in the second round and lost to him 1 down.

 

Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy took victory from the jaws of defeat in round one when, after being four down through six holes to Kevin Na, he managed to win 1 up. In round two Rory played against England's Oliver Wilson and lost at the 20th hole.

 

The 2009 European Tour Race to Dubai winner, Lee Westwood, beat ISM stablemate Chris Wood by 3 and 1 in the first round and then lost to Nick Watney 2 and 1 in the second round.

 

South Africa's Ernie Els defeated Ryan Moore in the first round 4 and 3 and then came up against compatriot Retief Goosen in the second round where, in a very tight match, Goosen won at the 20th.

 

Simon Dyson, playing in his first WGC - Match Play event went out in the first round to Sean O'Hair by the score of 3 and 1.
