England's Lee Westwood won the inaugural Race To Dubai in fine style and also won the Dubai World Championship, the season ending finale on the European Tour.
Lee put on a wonderful show of golf and shot rounds of 66, 69, 66 and a course record 64 to win the tournament by six shots finishing at twenty three under par. This is Lee's second tournament victory this year and and thesecond time he has won the Order of Merit, the first time being in 2000.
"It's about as good as I've ever played under this kind of pressure and it's nice to pull it off" said an emotional Westwood.
Rory McIlroy who came into the last event leading the Race to Dubai finished in 3rd place on fifteen under par for the tournament. Rory bogeyed the last three holes on Saturday which made his task of taking the title an uphill struggle but he put in a fine effort on Sunday.
Ross McGowan who won the 2009 Madrid Masters also put in an excellent performance with rounds of 71, 66, 66 and 68 and finished in 2nd place on seventeen under par.
Louis Oosthuizen finished in twelfth place and will now be looking forward to returning to South Africa where his wife Nel-Mare is expecting their first child due in about three weeks time.
Jeev Milkha Singh had a four round total of 280, eight under par and finished in a tie for 13th alongside Thomas Aiken. James Kingston finished on three under par in a tie for 30th, Simon Dyson two under par in a tie for 37th, Richard Sterne and Chris Wood one under par in a tie for 42nd and Ernie Els one over par in a tie for 50th with compatriot Charl Schwartzel finishing on two over in 53rd.
