European Tour Profile

Louis is one of a number of supremely-talented players to emerge from South Africa in recent years. He was member of the Ernie Els Foundation and shot a 57, his lowest ever round, at Mossel Bay Golf Club in 2002.

He joined the illustrious list of major champions from the Rainbow Nation with a magnificent seven-shot victory at the 139th Open Championship at St Andrews in 2010. Remarkably, it was only his ninth appearance at a major and came four months after his European Tour breakthrough at the Open de Andalucia de Golf.

Louis came agonisingly close to his second major at the Masters Tournament in 2012, where he lost in a play-off to Bubba Watson. His historic albatross in the final round, when he became the first player to hole out in two at Augusta’s par-five second hole, helped him to a share of the lead after 72 holes.

He showed enormous character the following week, though, overcoming jet lag, humidity and the disappointment of missing out on the green jacket to claim victory at the Maybank Malaysian Open.

Louis enjoyed his most consistent season in 2012, recording ten top-tens, which propelled him to third in the Race to Dubai and seventh in the FedExCup Standings. He crowned the year by rising to a career-high fifth in the Official World Golf Ranking.

Having battled injury for the majority of the previous 12 months, Louis returned to fitness and form by retaining the Volvo Golf Champions in January 2014. It was the fourth time in succession he had started his calendar year with victory and took his tally of worldwide professional victories to 12.

Louis finished second in the Maybank Malaysian Open and had a share of sixth in the season-ending DP World Tour Championship, finishing 17th in the Race to Dubai.

The South African started his 2015 season in form, with a share of seventh at the Nedbank Golf Challenge and second spot at the Alfred Dunhill Championship.

After finishing in a share of 19th at the 2015 Masters, Louis was in a share of fifth at the WGC Cadillac Match Play and he went close to another major at the US Open at Chambers Bay.

Following an opening round of 77, Louis carded consecutive rounds of 66 and produced six birdies in his final seven holes to finish in second place.

He started 2016 in style with victory at the ISPS Handa Perth International - his eighth European Tour title.

Louis enjoyed big performances at The Players Championship and the USPGA in 2017, finishing in a share of second place at both.

A resident and member of Old Palm Golf Club in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida since 2012, Louis utilizes the club’s 33-acre practice facilities and Raymond Floyd-designed golf course to accelerate game improvement.

Louis resides in Old Palm’s Golf Estates when playing in North American PGA Tour events.
